Between Shariah and Reality
One must uphold the etiquettes of the sacred Shariah (Islamic law) and follow its outward commands as much as possible, for all spiritual ascension lies in obedience to the Divine law. As for the knowledge of realities (Haqiqah), it is akin to stating that “the sky is above us, the earth is beneath us, fire is hot, and ice is cold”—simple truths that require no special insight. One must not allow adherence to Shariah to be compromised in any aspect of life, whether in food, clothing, speech, or conduct.
This principle has been neglected by many who have merely caught a whiff of Tawhid (the doctrine of Divine Oneness) in this age. As a result, they overstep Divine boundaries in their actions, justifying themselves by saying, “Allah has created this for me!” Some even abandon repentance for their sins, arguing, “I have no free will of my own, so what is there to repent from?”—thus perishing along with the doomed, unaware of their own ruin. Others go so far as to consume unlawful earnings, breaking their fasts in the houses of tax collectors even during Ramadan, declaring, “Everything belongs to Allah; I am His servant, and a servant eats from his master’s provisions.”
All of this is sheer heresy, a rejection of Divine laws. If such individuals truly believed in them, they would never dare to act in this manner.
