The Qur’an is the Pre-eternal Kalam (word) of Allah Exalted is He. The Qur’an is not created and is the Divine words of Allah, which has never been nor will ever be changed. Allah Ta’ala has mentioned in the Quran:

الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ.

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book.

Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an that you might understand.- Qur’an Surah Yusuf, Ayah 1-2

The Qur’an was revealed in Arabic, and it is of utmost importance that one should recite the Qur’an with the correct Tajweed (articulation) for even a single mistake in the punctuation or pronunciation can change the entire meaning of a word. It is therefore, every believers duty to learn the correct Tajweed and manner of reading the Qur’an from someone who is competent in Qur’an recitation, listening to videos and reading books on tajweed are good but are not sufficient in learning, and one must have a physical teacher who can correctly teach, listen, test and guide you to reading the Qur’an correctly.

Having said the above, a person who does not know how to recite properly should not despair, rather he or she should make a firm intention to learn and then seek out a teacher who is able to assist them in learning correctly. In fact there is a hadith of the Noble Messenger of Allah ﷺ ‘Such a person as recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward’ (Sahih al Bukhari, Vol. 6, Book 60, Hadith 459)

Narrated ‘Atiyyah: from Abu Sa’eed, the Noble Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The Lord, Blessed and Most High is He, has said: ‘Whoever is too busy with the Qur’an for remembering Me and asking Me, then I shall give him more than what I give to those who ask.’ And the virtue of Allah’s Speech over the speech of others is like the virtue of Allah over His creation.’- Tirmidhi, Vol. 5, Book 42, Hadith 2926
