On Detachment from the World

One of the signs of a sincere seeker who has renounced the world is that worldly means become perpetually difficult for him, no matter how long he lives. This is due to the strength of his resolve in rejecting them, so that he wakes and sleeps each day in complete dependence upon his Lord, the Almighty.

If Allah grants a seeker the opening of divine recognition (Ma‘rifa), then he no longer concerns himself with whether his deeds are many or few.

When the people of Allah realised that no plant grows or bears fruit unless it is buried beneath the earth, trodden underfoot, they made their egos as dust beneath the feet of others so that they might grow and bear fruit. Thus, they do not reveal themselves to people until they have become firmly rooted in divine love.
