Sayyiduna Rifa`a b. Rafi Az-Zuraqi radiAllahu anhu narrates:
One day we were praying behind The Beloved Prophet ﷺ. When He ﷺ raised His blessed head from bowing, He ﷺ said, “Sami`a l-lahu liman hamidah.” A man behind Him ﷺ said, “Rabbana wa laka l-hamdu, hamdan kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi” (O our Lord! All the praises are for You, many good and blessed praises). When The Beloved Prophet ﷺ completed the prayer, He ﷺ asked, “Who has said these words?” The man replied, “I.”
The Beloved Prophet ﷺ said, “I saw over thirty angels competing to write it first.”
-Sahih al Bukhari
In another narration recorded by Imam Bukhari radiAllahu anhu in his book ‘Adab al Mufrad’
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari radiAllahu anhu narrates:
“A man said in the presence of The Beloved Prophet ﷺ ‘Praise belongs to Allah with blessed and abundant praise.; The Beloved Prophet ﷺ, said, ‘Who said that?’ The man was silent, thinking that it was a reprimand from the Prophet ﷺ for something He ﷺ disliked. He ﷺ asked again, ‘Who was it? He said nothing incorrect.’
The man said, ‘I did, and I hope for good by it.’ The Beloved Prophet ﷺ said, ‘By the One in whose hand my soul is, I saw thirteen angels racing one another to see which of them would take it to Allah Almighty.'”
Note: There is no contradictions in the above two narrations as these are two different occasions and narrated by two different companions radiAllahu anhuma. The first was in Salah and the second narration mentions it was recited in the presence of The Beloved of Allah ﷺ. Similar narrations have also been mentioned in other books of Hadith. Allah Ta’ala and His Beloved Messenger ﷺ know best.
