Ratib al Attas

The Ratib al Attas was complied by the great Ghawth, Sayyiduna Imam Umar b. Abd al-Rahman al Attas radiAllahu anhu, who was the Shaykh of the great Imam AbdullaThe Maqam of Habib Umar al-Attas, the author of Ratib al-Attash b. Alawi al Haddad radiAllah anhu. Its benefits are many which are too many to list, however in the words of our Shaykh, Sayyiduna Habib Ahmad Mashhur al Haddad radiAllahu ‘There is great treasure in both of them (Ratib al-Attas and Ratib al-Haddad) and success for someone who recites them every day. Someone who makes the intention of reciting both of them together should begin with the Ratib of al-Habib ‘Umar al-‘Attas radiAllahu anhu. Someone who makes the intention of reciting them at two different times (in a day) may begin with any one of them as he wishes.’

It is recited daily all over the world with many intentions such as fulfilment of needs, protection, forgiveness and warding of evil etc. A  man came to Sayyiduna Imam al-Haddad and complained to him about his sickness which the doctors had informed him would result in his death within days. The Qutb, Imam al Haddad radiAllahu anhu advised him ‘You must recite persevere in the recitation of the Ratib al Attas, perhaps Allah Ta’ala will extend you life’. The man acted upon the advice of The Qutb (Imam al Haddad radiAllahu anhu) and Allah Ta’ala blessed with with a long life and even eventually being blessed with children.

The Ratib al Attas is such a powerful litany that it connects one to the Masters of the Spiritual Path, rectifies the spiritual affairs of the seeker and leads his to the path of the Noble Prophet ﷺ.

Sayyiduna Imam Umar b. Abd al Rahman al Attas radiAllahu anhu hails from a family of spiritual masters and Gnostics. His blessed and noble grandfather, Sayyiduna Aqil b Salim radiAllahu anhu was such a Knower of Allah, that whilst his noble mother was expecting, she would hear him sneeze and say Alhamdulilah from her womb, this is where the name ‘al-Attas’, which means to sneeze came from. Sayyiduna Aqil b. Salim radiAllahu anhu was the twin brother of the great Gnostic, Sayyiduna Shaykh Abu Bakr b. Salim radiAllahu anhu, who authored the famous Salawat al Tajiyya (Darood-e-Taj).

It is stated that his Kar’mah (non-prophetic miracle) also accured with the great Sayyiduna Umar b. Abdur Rahman al Attas radiAllahu anhu himself, reflecting the spiritual inheritance of his noble and pure forefathers.

Sayyiduna Imam Umar b. Abd al-Rahman al Attas radiAllahu anhu was the essence of the spiritual concentration of his noble ancestors, and it was said by Shaykh Muhammad b. Abd al-Kabir Ba Qays ‘The whole of Tarim moved to our valley with the arrival of this Imam.”
