Qasidah- Qad Kafani

Qad Kafani- Imam Abdullah b. Alawi b. Muhammad al Haddad radiAllahu anhu

قَدْ كَفَانِي عِلْمُ رَبِّيْ 

مِنْ سُؤَالِيْ وَاخْتِيَارِي 

 My Lord’s knowledge has sufficed me

from asking or choosing

فَدُعَائِي وَابْتِِهَالِي 

شَاهِدٌ لِي بِافتِقَارِي

My prayer and my pleading

Bear witness to my neediness.

فَلِهَذَا السِرُّ أَدْعُوْ 

فِي يَسَارِي وَعِسَارِي

By this secret I supplicate,

In times of ease and times of difficulty.

أَنَا عَبْدٌ صَارَ فَخْرِي 

ضِمْنَ فَقْرِي وَاضْطِِرَارِيْ

I am a slave, my only pride

Lies in poverty and need.

قَدْ كَفَانِي عِلْمُ رَبِّيْ 

مِنْ سُؤَالِيْ وَاخْتِيَارِي

My Lord’s knowledge suffices me

From asking or choosing

يَا إِلَهِي وَمَلِيْكِي 

أَنْتَ تَعلَمْ كَيْفَ حَالِيْ

O my Lord, my King!

You are aware of my state

وَبِمَا قَدْ حَلَّ قَلْبِيْ 

مِنْ هُمُوْمٍ وَاشْتِغَالِ

And of the worries and preoccupations

That have overwhelmed by heart.

فَتَدارَكَنِيْ بِلُطْفٍ 

مِنْكَ يَا مَوْلَى الْمَوَالِي

So set me right with gentle grace

From You, O Master of masters!

يَا كَريْمَ الْوَجهِ غِثْنِي 

قَبْلَ اَنْ يَفْنَى اصْطِِبَارِي

O Most Generous One, save me

Before I exhaust my patience (with myself)!

قَدْ كَفَانِيْ عِلْمُ رَبِّيْ 

مِنْ سُؤاَلي وَاخْتِيَارِي

My Lord’s knowledge has sufficed me

from asking or choosing

يَا سَرِيْعَ الْغََوْثِ غَوثًا 

مِنْكَ يُدرِكْنَا سَرِيْعًا

O Swift in granting aid! Grant me aid

From you which will reach me swiftly,

يَهْزِمُ الْعُسْرَ وَيَأْتِي 

بِالَّذِيْ نَرْجُوْ جَمِيْعًا

Vanquishing all difficulty, and bringing

[The fulfilment of] all that we hope for.

يَا قَرِيْبًا يَا مُجِيْبًا 

يَا عَلِيْمًا يَا سَمِيْعًا

O Most Near! Answerer of Prayers!

All-Knowing, All-Hearing One!

قَد تَحَقَّقْتُ بِعَجْزِي 

وَخُضُوْعِيْ وَانْكِسَارِي

I acknowledge my incapacity,

My lack of power and my brokenness.

قَد كَفَانِيْ عِلْمُ رَبِّيْ 

مِنْ سُؤَالِيْ وَاخْتِيَارِي

My Lord’s knowledge has sufficed me

from asking or choosing

لَم أََزَلْ بِالْبَابِ وَاقِفْ 

فَارْحَمَنْ رَبّيْ وُقُوْفِي

Yet here I stand, at Your door,

So have mercy, my Lord, on my standing!

وَبِوَادِي الْفَضْلِ عَاكِفْ

فَأَدِمْ رَبِّ عُكُوْفِيْ

And I withdraw unto the valley of grace,

So make my retreat here abiding!

وَلِحُسْنِ الظَّنِّ لَازِمٌ 

وَهُوَ خِلِّيْ وَحَلِيفِيْ

A good opinion [of my Lord] is binding,

For He is my Close Friend, my Ally,

وَأَنِيْسِيْ وَجَلِيْسِيْ 

طُوْلَ لَيْلِي وَنَهَارِي

My Intimate, the One Who is with me

Throughout the day and the night.

قَدْ كَفَانِيْ عِلْمُ رَبِّيْ 

مِن سُؤالي وَاِختِيَارِي

My Lord’s knowledge has sufficed me

from asking or choosing

حَاجَةً فِي النَّفْسِ يَا رَبْ 

فَاَقْضِهَا يَا خَيْرَ قَاضِيْ

The need in my soul! O Lord,

Fulfil it, You are the Best of those who fulfil!

وَأَرِحْ سِرِّيْ وَقَلبِيْ 

مِنْ لَظَاهَا وَالشَّوَاظِ

And soothe my soul and my heart

From the burning fire inside them,

فِيْ سُرُوْرٍ وَحُبُوْرٍ 

وَإِذَا مَا كُنْتَ رَاضِيْ

With pleasure and joy

And that with which You are pleased.

فَالْهَنَا وَالْبَسْطُ حَالِي 

وَشِعَارِي وَدِثَارِي

Let bliss and expansion be my state,

My covering and my blanket.

قَد كَفَانِيْ عِلْمُ رَبِّيْ
