Qasidah Burdah

Qasidah al Burdah- A Brief Introduction

The Qasidah Burdah (The poem of the scarf) is something which has been read all over the world by the masses, it is literally a poem in which the great Imam Sharaf ud Din Muhammad al Busiri (Allah Exalted is He be pleased with him) praises The Noble Prophet ﷺ. The Qaisdah was written when the blessed Imam suffered a stroke, after which in his time of need, he wrote the poem which later came to be known as ‘Qaisdah al Burdah’ translated as The Poem as the scarf’.

After writing the blessed poem, the blessed Imam fell asleep in which he had the great honour of witnessing The Noble Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was asked by The Noble Prophet ﷺ to recite the poem he had written. The Noble Prophet ﷺ was pleased by the beautiful Qasidah and gave the Imam a Burdah (Shawl/Scarf) and rubbed His ﷺ blessed hand upon the Imam and the Imam was instantly cured.

After the Imam woke up, he realised that he was completely cured and the Shawl that The Noble Prophet ﷺ gave him in the dream, was next to him. It is said that the Shawl is buried with the blessed Imam in his grave which is located in Alexandria, Egypt.

The Burdah is certainly something which has been accepted in the blessed and noble court of Allah Ta’ala and His Beloved ﷺ and its virtues are too many to number. It is recited all across the world regularly by millions and has been translated into many languages.
